Earth art opened at Gallery Adesso to a packed house last week on Södermalm.

“It was wonderful to see so many people coming along to look at the work,” says Leon Kühn. “I think there were over 100 people attending the versnissage.”

Despite the cold wintry weather, art lovers ventured out to the small, intimate gallery just a five minute walk from Götgatan, to look at Leon’s latest offering: a collection of pieces that draw inspiration from natural materials.

Both paintings and craftwork by Leon were on show as he brought his uniquely African-flavoured art to one of Stockholm’s most bohemian areas.

“I think there’s much more colour in this new work,” said Marta Fuster-Valles. “I’m very impressed.”

“I simply love the handmade butterflies,” another visitor enthused. “I can almost feel the warmth that surrounds them.”

The exhibition entitled earth art opened last week with over 100 people attending the vernissage.

“It’s a opportunity for me to show some of the new work I’ve been doing,” says Kühn, who is head of the Arts Department at a local senior high school, IEG. “All the work is inspired by the living environment. I’ve been working a lot with natural materials.”

The exhibition coincides with the launch of Earth Art.info, which Leon hopes will help bring people together interested in earth art.

“There’s a strong interest the environment today. I believe art has a large role to play in the discussion of how we treat our planet.”
